This is an exciting opportunity for a Development Manager to join a highly respected central London property investment and development company. My client focuses on acquiring, managing and repositioning properties to unlock their full potential and value. This approach, combined with successful reading of the real estate market, continues to deliver great performance and makes for a dynamic environment in which to work.

The Development Manager will report to the Director of Development Management responsible for the delivery and development of major assets. The Development Manager will manage varied and comprehensive refurbishment projects that will contribute to growing parts of the business and related developments. This will entail working closely with the portfolio Management and Leasing teams.

About you:

  • Qualified property professional with 10 years of post-qualified experience within the built environment sector
  • Creation and implementation of development business plans showing value creation through entrepreneurial flair;
  • Demonstrable success in delivering the full life cycle of developments which have maximum returns;
  • Management of external professional teams; and
  • Broad knowledge base: planning, design, construction, Landlord & Tenant, neighbourly matters, marketing, leasing and capital transactions.
  • Analysis - evaluating asset performance and interpreting implications for strategy and action;
  • Commercial thinking - identifying opportunities to add value at business plan level;
  • Negotiation - demonstrating understanding of other parties' interests/agenda and working to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes;
  • Planning and implementation - conducting forward planning, managing risk and monitoring progress; and

About the role:

  • Will assist the Director of Development Management, Development Director and Investment Team in pre-purchase considerations of potential developments and new business opportunities for the business.
  • Responsible for the production of development appraisals for the Business Plan/Executive Committee/Board, Preliminary and Definitive Appraisals, including a reasoned recommendation for the development, with appropriate financial analysis.
  • Responsible for ensuring the correct programme sequencing of a development including design, planning, customer liaison, third-party agreements and contractor and professional team appointments, working closely with the Project Management team.
  • The Development Manager, working with Director of Development Management, is responsible for setting the planning strategy and overseeing suitable negotiations with planning authorities and local stakeholders and the community in order to procure the most efficient planning solution.
  • For all major refurbishments and redevelopments, the Development Manager should collaborate with the relevant Portfolio Manager, Building Services Manager, Investment Manager and Leasing Manager.
  • Own the design criteria of a development, with input from the Portfolio Manager, Leasing Director and the Portfolio Management.
  • Ensure that the Company's Sustainable Development Brief and objectives are fully incorporated into the schemes.
  • Involve the Sustainability Director and team from an early stage, and that any development carried out is in accordance with the Company's Safety, Health and Environmental policies.
  • The Development Manager has the responsibility for the development returns and expected to work with the leasing team on the letting and sales team of a particular project.
