Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager - Data Centres

Location: London

Salary: £80,000 - £100,000 + package

Capstone have partnered with a Global Data Centre Developer, who are looking to recruit a Health, Safety and Environment Manager to be based at their London campus, supporting leadership and management with implementing all HSE processes and procedures. The HSE Manager will monitor processes and procedures to provide effective due diligence and legislative compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing key management information to drive HSE improvements.
  • Maintain compliance with all current and new HSE legislation.
  • Maintain working relationships with consultants, principal contractors, auditing bodies and professional agencies to ensure the organisation complies with its statutory obligations.
  • Understands the application of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other legislation relevant to the Companies business, and relevant to the applicable countries of operation.
  • Keeps up to date with changes in current legislation and to bring to the attention of the Director for any relevant new legislation.
  • Attends such courses/seminars run by external sources to enable accurate interpretation of legislation to enable implementation within the organisation.
  • Ensures that all "assessments" as required by legislation are conducted and reviewed at relevant intervals and to maintain records of the same.
  • Recommends control measures and advise on the standard of PPE issued to employees.
  • Conduct health and safety inspections and prepare reports of Principal Contractors, Fit Out Contractors, and Suppliers, during the tender and construction phases.
  • Immediately contacts the Director if situations are found, that in the opinion of the HSE Manager, require immediate rectification or the stopping of any operation.
  • Notifies the HSE Director if the corrective action agreed after any workplace inspection is not implemented by the arranged date.
  • Bring any new techniques for improving health, safety, environment, and wellness to the attention of the HSE Director.
  • Working Hours are 0800hrs to 1700hrs this includes one hour lunch break.
  • As a senior member of the London Campus team there may be times working beyond the normal working week maybe required. This time will be compensated as agreed with the London Campus Project Director.
  • Manage third party HSE Consultants when employed at London Campus

Professional Skills:

  • Previous experience at an operational level within the construction industry.
  • Be able to understand multi-stakeholder engagement.
  • Experienced in Risk / Crisis Management / Disaster Recovery
  • Able to strike a balance between operational needs and legislative compliance
  • Influential, collaborative, driven, tenacious team player and team builder

Competencies:

  • Strong hands-on practical approach
  • Create a good working relationship with all key players in the line management structure.
  • Ability to win hearts and minds of all line managers so that they assume full HSE ownership.
  • Communicative, convincing with a natural authority and a proven ability to motivate and inspire others
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural team as well as independently
  • Able to work with the Principal Contractor to build a team in a cooperative and respectful manner.

Profile:

  • Hold NEBOSH or equivalent international certification
  • Robust understanding of key concepts of HSE management
  • Pragmatic approach and proven ability to analyse information and be able to drive HSE performance at project and strategic level.
  • A Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience as a Principal Contractor HSE Manager in the construction industry. Experience as a HSE Manager Consultant will also be advantageous.
  • Experienced with MS Office related software.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Live within commuting distance to site or willing to stay in Company provided accommodation during the working week.
  • Membership of an Internationally recognised safety organisation.
